Lowland Leader Award (LLA) Training
The Lowland Leader Award has been designed for people who wish to lead groups on day walks on defined waymarked trails, coastal paths, lowland countryside and woodland areas.
The qualification, allows allows you to operate in Ireland and the UK.
I provide the LLA course on behalf of the Mountain Training Board Ireland and it is run in accordance with their syllabus and guidelines.
What do I have to do to get started/register?
– Register for the Lowland Leader scheme (this costs €52)
– Join a Mountaineering Council: Mountaineering Ireland, Mountaineering Scotland or the British Mountaineering Council. €30 for training candidates.
What does the Lowland Leader Award Training Look like?
The Lowland Leader Training runs over two days and the syllabus looks at the following areas, and more:
Navigation
Leadership Skills
Equipment
Planning and Organisation of walks
Our responsibilities as outdoor leaders
Hazard Management and Emergency Procedures
Communication
Environmental Awareness, Flora and Fauna, Geology and Local Knowledge. And how to pass this information on to our group
Ratio: Min: 2:1, Maximum 8:1

Cost: €200 euro per person (discounts are available for a group booking)

The Lowland Leader Award Training Course can run at many different venues around Ireland, as there is such a wealth of great tracks and trails in all areas of the country.
